Inside Comaus testing of Intrinsic Flowstate

Intrinsic tested its latest platform and Flowstate with Comau, an Italian-based robot manufacturer and global systems integrator. Comau has been working with Intrinsic for several years now to validate Intrinsic’s platform technology and developer product, Flowstate, through real-world use cases. 

Flowstate, announced earlier this year in May, is a robotic software development platform. It’s Intrinsic’s first developer product built on the Intrinsic platform. Comau was also introduced as the company’s first industry partner in May. 

The Intrinsic Flowstate software adds a layer of abstraction to traditional robotic software tools with the goal of reducing the development skillset required while making it easier than ever before to program a robot in simulation.

“Partnering with Comau over the years has brought our team a tremendous amount of expertise, knowledge, and real-world use cases to focus our efforts on. We’re excited for what’s next and what it will mean to the solution builders of today and tomorrow,” Wendy Tan White, CEO of Intrinsic, said.

Comau now uses Flowstate and the Intrinsic platform for a variety of projects. For example, Comau is using the platform to assemble the rigid components of a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) super module. Supermodules are compact energy converters that help electric cars to be charged and operated more efficiently for better range and performance.

“To continue to grow into the future, we need to constantly pursue opportunities to more efficiently serve our existing customers … but also bring in the next software innovations to address new industries such as renewable energy, battery production, and logistics. We believe that Intrinsic Flowstate will make it much faster to design, program, and reprogram robotic work cells, saving hundreds of manual programming hours on every project,” Pietro Gorlier, CEO of Comau, said during Intrinsic’s product keynote earlier this year.

Comau’s vision is to help system builders leverage software to solve difficult problems in valuable ways. Intrinsic’s platforms empower more of Comau’s team, including developers, to build AI-infused systems faster and in a more scalable way. This means Comau can offer more modular and affordable systems to its customers over time.

In December, Intrinsic announced it had acquired the Open Source Robotics Corporation (OSRC), the for-profit arm of the Open Source Robotics Foundation, which is the developer of the Robot Operating System (ROS).

Chipotle testing avocado processing robot in test kitchen

Chipotle Mexican Grill announced Autocado, an avocado processing cobotic prototype that cuts, cores, and peels avocados before they are hand mashed to create the restaurant’s famous guacamole. The prototype, developed in collaboration with Vebu , is currently being tested at the Chipotle Cultivate Center in Irvine , California.  How Autocado works  A team member loads Autocado with a full case of ripe avocados and selects the size setting. Autocado can hold up to 25 lbs. of avocados at once. One at a time, avocados are vertically oriented, then transferred to the processing device. The avocados are sliced in half.
